Junya Yamaguchi, MD, PhD

Visiting Scholar

Junya Yamaguchi, M.D., Ph. D. is a neurosurgeon licensed in Japan, currently working as a visiting scholar in the laboratory of Dr. Hideho Okada at the UCSF Brain Tumor Center (BTC). Throughout his career, he has been involved in the treatment of adult and pediatric malignant brain tumors. He received his Ph.D. degree from Nagoya University for his work on genomic abnormalities and chemotherapy sensitivity in primary central nervous system lymphoma. In particular, non-operative treatment of malignant brain tumors is his main interest. He realized the limitations of current treatments for malignant brain tumors and has conducted research on immunotherapy for malignant brain tumors in Japan. As his current primary interest is how to modify and elevate CAR-T therapy to clinical use, he came to Okada Lab to help bring CAR-T therapy to patients with difficult-to-treat malignant brain tumors.
